The Azuri Collection is a handmade, hand-decorated, traditional porcelain cup assemblage.
It offers artisan craftmanship, which has developed over centuries and is now combined with contemporary design.
The current collection has been produced in collaboration with British interior designers including Tom Bartlett and Theresa Tollemache. It was crafted in the Imperial Porcelain Factory in St.Petersburg, one of the oldest and most famous producers of porcelain in the world, in the early 2000's. Founded in 1744 by Empress Elizabeth, daughter of Peter the Great, to "serve native trade and native art”, it reached its zenith in the reign of Catherine the Great. Some of the earliest dinner services depicted figures in scenes of rural life as well as ethnic minorities of the Empire, taken from book illustrations. It is based on a unique formula, invented of self-made scientist Dimitry Vinogradov.I have been involved with artists, designers and workshops in Eastern Europe for the last 25 years. I started by importing glassware and porcelain and over time my collaborations have evolved in various ways in different locations. My latest venture has led to the establishment of the Azuri Collection in London, in partnership with the talented Nikita Nadel, who has found a passion interpreting beautiful and distinctively crafted products and bringing fine vintage pieces to the forefront of home design. The name “Azuri” was chosen as a play on the word ‘pattern’ which is shared, with variants, by many Eastern European countries, for example in Slovakia it is ‘vzori’, in Belorus ‘uzory’, in Poland ‘wzory’ and in Croatia ‘uzorci’. "Azzurro" is also blue in Italian, which further ties us to the international community. The name, which conveys shared linguistic and artistic connections, was the suggestion of my late brother-in-law.
I hope you enjoy the carefully curated selection of fine bone china pieces we have on offer. Ludmilla L.
